This ia a painting based on Duane Hay of Canadian band Oldbury. Like a King spitting out fog and branches coming out of his skull and eyes, he loudly rages.
Love this piece, Marie-Josee nailed an incredible gestual and effective artform, i just made his clothes look as if they were from some medieaval times.

Point de mire

Point de mire (Prieur-Roy 2010)
Mixed media on aluminum
30 x 30

This is piece based on a photograph of Josh Baynes of Oldbury (Canadian band).

Point de mire would translate as , right to the target, right to the point. The -point- of this piece is the direct view of the main subject. The facial expression says it all, but in adding an ornament from his ear to the nose and then engrave a somewhat arrow foward adds to the emptiness of the blank space left in the piece.

Aggressive, direct, strong, it leaves everything to the interpretation. But the important part to remember is that whatever the main subject is after...Or is wanting to say...Or wish...

There are no other way and will not take NO for an answer:-)

This piece will be available for sale as of September 18th at Cella Gallery in North Hollywood CA.

Le Dompteur

This is another piece that will be shown at Cella Gallery in North Hollywood, CA, in September 2010.

It is the first one i am making public of a series that i call the -Oldbury series no.1-.

The idea of this series is that i was allowed to used the Oldbury's band members photographs and turned them into art. I should mention that this series is also being part of this new collaborative work with artist Marie-Josee Roy and myself.

This piece named -Le Dompteur- features the band's drummer Jeff Talbot. Based on a photograph of him mimicking Dr.Evil, we have turned it into a pop realist piece almost in hommage to Warhol. I must say that this piece is also one of the most humoristic and twisted of the series.
Yes, Jeff here has a new friend, a pet fly that is calmly (and nervously) being trained by him.

Back from holiday (sort of...)

I was away after the last show in Montreal at Gallery Rye that was a fun time and success. Thanks to all of you that came the night of the vernissage, viewed, drank good beers and invested in all showing artists!

I have been working for the past weeks with my fellow artist Marie-Josee Roy in the preparation of a show at Cella Gallery for September 2010. As well as others pieces that will be placed in other galleries.

These new pieces are the start of the new collaboration that Marie-Josee and I are venturing into since our first piece we made together at her solo show at Le Cirque du Soleil back on May 2010.

It was a non-stop work and barely had time to socialize much during these weeks but altogether was worth it:-) We created together over 20 new art pieces on aluminum.

Here is a preview and i will keep posting them as the photos get ready.

Enjoy
Jerome (and Marie-Josee)

Womanizer

This is a lamp that i made about a month ago. I found at the Fleamarket an authentic Steven Seagal doll, which i took apart (like most women would do in this world) and made a lamp with his torso. Marge Simpson is at the base of this lamp serving him hamburgers (or crepes...not too sure) Because she would like she would to Omer.

This lamp is called -Womanizer- (accurate title:-)
Base is 12 x 12
Height is adjustable (with a flexible gooseneck) up to approximately 60 inches.
60 watts max. with foot dimmer (to set a romantic mood...With Steven and Marge)

Artificial strenght and weakness

A piece i just finished for a group show coming up the first week of July at Galerie Rye in Montreal.

Since my piece named -The Ranger (circa 2002)- I rarely want to keep a piece for myself and i know i will regret to see it go to a new home if it sells. But hey, life of an artist, it will up for grab at the show and i will live with it and let it go if it hits someone!

I will post more new pieces as i go along with the preparation of this upcoming exhibit with details of the opening night.

This piece is about the commun facts of steroids used on men and rats...Tested on both subjects, the results are very similar and somewhat linked.

Uni-cite

I have been working on quite a few things lately.

Since the last Cella gallery group show, i was invited by artist Marie-Josee Roy to collaborate with her. My task was to engrave butterfly wings onto aluminum. She made the painting and left the wings outlined for me to fill in. It turned out quite nicely! It is part of her current solo exhibit at Le Cirque du Soleil headquarters in Montreal. The show runs until early June.
